On March 4, CEPS brought innovation to the forefront at its annual Ideas Lab, where ORBIS took the spotlight during the dynamic session titled “AI for All: How to Design and Regulate AI for Fairness.”

One of ORBIS’ platforms, Democratic Reflection, was put into action to enhance the quality of debate and revolutionize how participants engage with panel discussions.
The session unfolded as a panel debate featuring four expert speakers who shared their views on AI’s role in shaping social fairness and addressing discrimination. But this wasn’t a typical panel; audience was invited to actively participate in real time using their smartphones. By scanning a QR code, attendees accessed the Democratic Reflection platform, which presented 10 interactive “flip-cards,” each representing a reaction to the discussion.
This tool didn’t just gather feedback – it analysed it. By aligning live audience reactions with the timed transcript of the conversation, Democratic Reflection offered valuable insights into how participants interpreted and responded to each speaker’s points. More importantly, it identified key themes and proposed targeted follow-up questions to guide a deeper, more meaningful dialogue.
The response to Democratic Reflection was positive. Participants were excited by this innovative approach to dialogue, appreciating the opportunity to be both heard and engaged in real time. It wasn’t just a panel but a shared experience in shaping the conversation on AI and fairness.
