About us

Citizens increasingly demand to be engaged in democratic and inclusive discussions about new ways to prevent, mitigate, and even resolve ongoing crises and conflicts

Context

Democracy is in need of reshaping, with an emphasis on participation, engagement, transparency, responsiveness, accountability and effectiveness.

The current state of solutions is fragmented, and produces scattered contents that often lead to dysfunctional argumentation.

Challenge

Citizens increasingly demand to be engaged in democratic and inclusive discussions about new ways to prevent, mitigate, and even resolve ongoing crises and conflicts.

Objective

ORBIS responds to the profound lack of dialogue between citizenship and policy making institutions by providing (1) a theoretically sound and highly pragmatic socio-technical solution to enable the transition to a more inclusive, transparent and trustful Deliberative Democracy in Europe; (2) exploring models of digitally-enhanced democracy for scaling participation

Lack of democratic ecosystem that are both expansive and inclusive – Issue of effective and inclusive engagement – Failure to meet user expectation
Gap between deliberation and outcomes implementation – Misalignment between democratic needs and tech features
