Empowering Communities: ORBIS Debuts Deliberative Handbook in Milan

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent public event, “Deliberative Pathways for the Public Sphere,” held on 29 January 2026 at the vibrant Rob de Matt in Milan.

The evening centered on the official presentation of a practical handbook on deliberative methodology, a milestone achievement stemming from the ORBIS Milan pilot. This guide translates complex academic research into actionable strategies for grassroots groups and civic organizers.

Bridging Research and Action

The event showcased how ORBIS is bridging the gap between physical spaces and digital innovation. Key highlights included:

  • Lessons from the Field: The handbook draws on the real-world experiences of the IFe Civic Lab in Municipio 9 and city-wide experiments by Saichepuoi.

  • Digital Tools & AI: We demonstrated how digital platforms and AI-based tools can serve as powerful instruments for sustained collective action, helping communities organize long after a single project ends.

  • Hands-on Testing: Attendees didn’t just listen—they explored the methodologies and tested selected digital tools designed to strengthen local dialogue and coordination.

A Collaborative Effort

This milestone was made possible through the collaboration of the IFe Research Lab, Saichepuoi, and the CRAFT Competence Center (Politecnico di Milano). By bringing together researchers, civic innovators, and active citizens, we are refining a “deliberative approach” that is inclusive, trustworthy, and ready for real-world impact.

We are proud to see the ORBIS project providing concrete guidance to help Milan’s active communities shape the public sphere of tomorrow.
